After 39 years in education and twelve years as principal of  Matamata College, I  finished at the end of 2012 and then worked for the Ministry of Education in Hamilton for 4 ½ years as a senior advisor.

So I have wide recent experience on both sides of the “fence”. In this MOE role I was privileged to work with a wide range of schools, supporting Principals and Boards to  raise student achievement and to trouble shoot issues as they arose. I was fortunate in this role to work with a large number of beginning principals whom I was able to support and mentor  to help them get through the “possum in the headlight” stage of leadership and get a good start to their leadership role.

I have a particular interest in planning and reporting, strategic planning, self review, mentoring and coaching, Māori student achievement  and data based decision making to achieve continuous improvement.

While at Matamata College I coached cricket and directed numerous school drama and musical productions and retain an active interest in sport and drama.

I am a tragic long serving Blues supporter who lives in the eternal expectation that this will be our year! I am also a golf tragic whose golfing ambitions do not match the reality of my swing!
