After 48 years in teaching Grant retired as principal, from Ardmore School, a U5 full primary. 24 of his years in teaching involved senior management roles, 5 as a deputy-principal and 19 as principal.

Since retiring Grant has been involved in a range of appraisal work, mainly with principals and senior managers.

Grant's areas of educational interests include the growing of school leaders through appropriate support, developing a school culture that enhances teaching and learning and the effective induction of young teachers into the profession.

Outside of teaching Grant was a long-serving primary schools' delegate to the Auckland Cricket Association, where he was heavily involved in coaching and the promotion of junior cricket. His contribution to Auckland cricket has been acknowledged through his appointment as a Vice-Patron of the association.He continues to pursue his cricket interests as a director on the board of the Counties-Manukau Cricket Association.

Grant is currently looking to extend his work in the educational field through joining a trust looking at future focused learning and community engagement in a number of lower decile schools.
